A Chinese freight train will arrive in Barking, London, on Wednesday, after embarking on a 7,500 mile (12,000 km) journey from Yiwu. It is the first time that a freight train has completed this specific route. The train will travel through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium, France, and the Channel Tunnel, and will carry a cargo of clothes, bags and other household items. The trans=continental freight train, loaded with 32 containers, mainly carried maternity products and soft drinks, when departing from London on April 10. The Chinese military says it has successfully tested its first, mostly-made-in-China, long distance heavy cargo plane. State-media says the freighter, dubbed the Y-20, took off from an air force base near Xi'an in northwestern Shaanxi Province. The plane can reportedly fly over 27,000 miles with 66 tons of freight. This means it can travel more than half way around the earth, with roughly the weight of an army tank. The Chinese army currently uses Russian IL-76 freighters. It has a much shorter range, and a lighter load capacity. The Y-20 looks similar to the U.S. Air Force's C-17 cargo planes. A new 300-kilometer railway in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is expected to be whistling at the end of 2016, linking Baketu port near Kazakhstan and Kuitun. When it opens in 2017, the railway is expected to carry over 10 million tons of freight annually. Officials expect that number will eventually increase to 15 million tons. Watch the video for more.
